Those who knew her best would agree that Lady Jennifer’slegacyis marked by two things…Her passionate preaching and her prolific philanthropy. Jennifer Yvette Hegwood was born November 19, 1954, in Camden, Arkansas. Jennifer graduated from Camden High School in 1972 and in the fall of the same year attended Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she followed in the footsteps of parents (both educators), and began pursuit of a degree in Education.  It was there that in God’s Providence, she later met her future husband, Silas Johnson.  They later married in January of 1974 and in May of the same year moved to Lawton/Ft Sill, Oklahoma where Silas did his military service.  It was there that Jennifer completed her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree, graduating with honors from Cameron University in 1976 and taught in the Lawton School District.  In 1978, the Johnsons returned to Little Rock where Jennifer continued her teaching career until the birth of their third child, Noah.  She then resigned her teaching position to care for her home.  It was during this transition that she began her ministry, holding Ladies Bible Studies, “Proverbs 31” and Time Management Seminars as well as ministering in venues such as Women’s Aglow Groups and retreats.Always supportive and working alongside her husband, together they launched Full Counsel Christian Fellowship in December of 1985 where she was one of the “pioneers” of the “Co-Pastor” concepts in the South. After helping her husband establish Full Counsel, she began the earnest pursuit of the vision God gave her as a teenager, founding A Call To Excellence in 1989.  The expressed image of God was brought to life through her ministry, A Call To Excellence Ministries, as she challenged both men and women to fulfill their high calling in Christ Jesus. Dr. Jennifer earned her Doctor of Ministry Degree from Central Christian University, and she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Triune Biblical University. As a philanthropist, Dr. Jennifer has touched the lives of thousands of youth and children through the What About The Children (WATCh) Philanthropic Outreach with scholarships, Christmas outreaches, financial grants and gifts, mentoring, and sponsored events.  The mission of WATCh is to express love to children and youth by addressing their needs and desires in three primary areas: personal care and concern, educational needs, and self-esteem enhancement.  Philanthropic endeavors also included her favorite charity, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where she awarded a major gift annually totaling more than $100,000 in 2020.Dr. Jennifer and husband Bishop Silas Johnson had been married for over 48 years and they have five children – Vincent (Christa wife), Erica (Matthew husband), Noah (Tia wife), Christopher and Michael (Rochelle wife); and twelve grandchildren: Jakobe, Jace, Creed, Harper, Evan, Matthew II, Kristin, Kyndall, Isaac, Masen, SeJames and Sadie. The foundation continues in the philanthropic spirit of Lady J by being dedicated to continue to provide assistance for children, in-need families and other charitable efforts.
